Research Policy

Vignan’s Lara Institute of Technology & Science faculty members inculcate education to the students with a research a touch in various courses as per the requirements. So, the prepared research policy has multiple components described below for enriching scientific advances among students and faculty members.

  • 1.Proem
  • 2.Awareness
  • 3.Objectives
  • 4.Research promotion
  • 5.Administrative procedures for sponsored projects
  • 6.Patents
  • 7.Incentives for academic merit
  • 8.Incentives for publications
  • 9.Incentives for project
  • 10.Research ethics
  • 11.Review of research policy
  • 1.Proem

The institute has the vision to evolve into a center of excellence in Science & Technology through one of the vital missions, i.e., strive for excellence in teaching-learning. Since the inception of this institution, faculty members have followed quality enhanced teaching practices through research in the respective areas.

    2.Awareness

The institute encourages seminars, workshops, FDP’s in the thrust areas of research for exploring the student and faculty fraternity of different disciplines, viz. Languages, Physical, Chemical, and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering. Moreover, the institute conducts research awareness sessions department-wise to know the government funding agencies and thrust research areas.

    3.Objectives

The research policy aims to fulfill the following objectives.

    • • To promote quality research within the institute and in collaboration with the experts of other organizations.
    • •To establish more research centres with specific research objectives
    • • To correlate the theory courses with research
    • • To promote quality, ethics in research and patent filing
    • • To extend the usage of facilities at nominal cost and support the nearby institution student, faculty researchers
    4.Research promotion

Research has to carry out scientific activities, either experimental or analytical, in a peaceful environment. The institution has a policy of allocating minimum teaching/ laboratory workload to the faculty members to conduct the research qualitatively. The initiate measures followed for promoting the research are as follows.

    • • At the end of the seventh semester of the B.Tech program, a small number of students form as a batch to do the quality main-project. Then the respective guide faculty will then encourage and support the publication of research results as a conference or journal paper.
    • • In the intra and interdepartmental meetings, the senior and doctoral faculty discuss the scientific advancements in research.
    • • The research committee advises and discusses the identification of thrust areas of research to get funded projects.
    • • Research committee members also extend the support for the application of innovations as a patent.
    5.Administrative procedures for sponsored projects
    • • The interested faculty members write a proposal in their research area as per the funding agency's specific formats.
    • • Later, the departmental committee members review the principal investigator, co-investigators research background, and publications matching the written proposal.
    • • More precisely, the objectives, outcomes, and necessary equipment/software practical possibility in the execution of the project, along with the cost, is checked.
    • • Subsequently, the principal investigator submits the project proposal through the proper channel to the corresponding funding agency.
    • • After sanctioning the project, PI advertises for necessary staffing as per the terms and conditions of the funding agency.
    • • PI also takes a separate bank account with office personnel's support and maintains various registers for equipment, consumables, staff attendance, and other misllaneous activities.
    • • PI has to present the progress of the project to the committee members for review and suggestions.
    • • Before the end of the financial year, PI has to prepare UC and SE's draft for the committee members' verification and approval. After that, the PI sends the approved, audited documents to the funding agency.
    • • PI requests the institute for any miscellaneous expenses which the funding agency does not sanction.
    6.Patents
    • • The institution encourages innovations from the students, faculty members. An applicant(s)/inventor(s) has to write the draft of the invention as per the format of the respective country.
    • • Then the departmental, institutional level committee review and accept as it is or gives suggestions based on the necessity.
    • • After incorporating the suggestions in the application, the applicant(s) has to submit it to the concerned patent authorities.
    • • The institute provides financial assistance for filing the patent to the principal applicant.
    • • After the patent grant, the institute gives an incentive to the principal inventor.
    • • If the patent is commercialized, then the generated revenue is shared by the institution and principal inventor.
    7.Incentives for academic merit

The research committee strongly advises and requests that the faculty members teach the theory courses rigorously in-depth. It will generate ideas for doing research in the specific area taught. So, as a part of encouragement, the institute provides an incentive of Rs. 5,000 to the faculty members who got the result of 100 % in the theory course.

    8.Incentives for publications
    • • The institute highly encourages the students, faculty to do qualitative research and publish papers in indexed journals, viz. Scopus/SCI/ESCI/SCIE.
    • • Further, beginner researchers are requested to publish an article in a UGC-care-approved journal.
    • • Further collaborative research of the faculty members with the outside organizations, scientific industries is highly encouraged.
    • • When any publications come from the institute/government-funded project, the faculty members are requested to give the proper acknowledgment.
    • • The research committee segregates the published articles in the calendar, academic year, and provides an incentive on the occasion of Engineers Day, i.e., September 15th of every year.

    Table Incentive for journal publication

    Journal indexing Amount (Rs.)
    SCI 10,000
    Scopus/ESCI/UGC-care 5,000
    9.Incentives for project

The institute gives an incentive to the Principal Investigator of the externally funded project based on sanctioned amount till the completion of the project.

    • • Project worth ≥ 35 lakhs, incentive Rs. 10,000 per month
    • • Project worth < 35 lakhs, incentive Rs. 5,000 per month
    10.Research ethics
    • • To ensure academic and research quality, the institute highly discourages the fabrication of the data, plagiarism due to any reason.
    • • When doing the research, the researcher has to be a responsible citizen of India and follows consciousness to the environment for its sustainability.
    • • Researchers also have to follow the laws of the government from time to time.
    • • The research committee checks the plagiarism of the article using turn-it-on software before submission to the journal. If the similarity index is more than 20 %, the faculty has to modify the paper accordingly.
    • • The software also checks the thesis plagiarism as per the requirements of the Ph.D. enrolled faculty members before the final submission.
    11.Review of research policy

The research committee reviews the institute policy on research, patent, incentives, plagiarism once in three years and approves the necessary modifications. However, any dynamic changes based on the necessity will be done from time to time.
